ARAGÓN & LA RIOJA

ARAGÓN

Official visit to DGA. In the image, the Ambassador Mr. Jan Voderadsky, the President of DGA Mr. Marcelino Iglesias, and Mr. Jean Paul Bastiaans, Honorary Consul.
Business meeting in DGA with the President of the Autonomic Community Mr. Marcelino Iglesias.

The name of Aragón has reached an outstanding position in the history of Spain, because it was one of the founders of the spanish political union.

Nowadays, the Autonomic Community of Aragón is a territory marked by its great extension and its privileged location in Spain and Europe. Aragón is the 4th largest Independent Community in Spain, with 47.645 Km2.

Thanks to its strategic location, Aragón plays a remarkable role as frontier with Europe through the Pyrenees (Some people define Aragón as the “European door” for the rest of Spain).
Furthermore, the capital Zaragoza and the valley of the Ebro river became a center of logistic and commercial interest because of their good location with reference to other Spanish neuralgic centers: Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia. All this makes Zaragoza a very important communication and logistic center.

LA RIOJA

La Rioja was occupied by the Romans and the Muslims, in the Middle Ages, because it was a place required by Navarra, Castilla and Aragón. The route of Saint James also contributed to its cultural development, specifically through its monasteries. The route is surrounded by monumental villages such as Calahorra, Arnedo, San Millán de la Cogolla, Santo Domingo de la Calzada and Logroño (the current capital). By the end of the XIX century, the takeoff of the wine industry began, and a true wine culture arose. La Rioja is located in the western vertex of the valley of the Ebro river. It has a great variety of landscapes and wildlife thanks to the different geographic characteristics of its natural regions.

Traditions, history and landscapes of this region are very interesting and worthy (Specially the mountain architecture, caves excavated in the rocks…)
